Why is it that so many people are afraid of chiropractic doctors?

I have ben treated successfully many time by these doctors and owe the profession my gratitude. After a serious car wreck my g p g only prescribed pain pills (nothing against consciences g p c doctors) and in desperation went to a chiropractor who healed me after a series of treatments. Another time after being kicked by a horse another chiropractic doctor brought me back into shape, yet folks keep asking "what do they do" and "does it hurt?". These people , some play football and ride broncos and bulls in rodeos but yet still fearful of chiropractic doctors! I don't understand why.
