Does the U.S. government actually want us to ride bikes everywhere like in Japan?

Why else would they: purchase controlling interest in the auto industry, allow the Gulf Oil spill to go on for more than 6 weeks, encourage a total "Green Revolution" and not only prudent steps to conserve our environment? Seems Obama and the dems are trying to get us off cars all-together.
