Is it true that a lot of people (not everone though) does bad their first semester of college?

Currently, I am a freshman in college and I am having trouble (mainly waking up and getting to cl). Im really trying hard (midterms are next week and i figured that if i pull my *** out of the dirt this other half, i could pull a good GPA this semester. But then i heard this (BTW this has nothing to do with my current status, no matter what the answer is here im still going to try to do my best), Most people do bad their first semester of college, does this have any validity?
