Why do cheater wins at university?

I find it funny that the people that get selected to compete in a competition at my university are a bunch of cheaters and party people. It is really frustrating for me bc I got rejected. I know my weakness is my math and reading skills. It also suck that I am dyslexia. I need advice because I believe in fairness in life and to see cheaters beat me yet hate me when I worked hard for one of internship really frustrated me. Some of the cheater even won at the 2nd and 3rd place in the competition. I desperately have a completing feeling to succeed even beyond their imagination.
