How should I deal with this girl?

So I have been talking/dating this girl who is about a year older than me, were both in college. She lives about 35-40 minutes away from me so it has been hard to see her as much as I would like too. We've hung out about 5 times and have been talking for the past two months. To break it down, shes what every kind of guy is a searching for - an independent women, and unfortunately, I am the kind of guy that actually seeks the opposite. So im like the clingy girl and shes like the guy who doesn't get wrapped up with being infatuated and mushy feeling stuff, but thats just how she is. I enjoy getting attention and feeling wanted and needed by a girl but I know it is not a healthy type of relationship. I would very much like to change into someone that is independent and not so focused on the mushy feeling side of our relationship. Is this the right decision and if so how can I accomplish this goal?
